Altar Live's multi-stream settings allow customers to send their stream to Altar Live via RTMP and then distribute it to different streaming providers. Below you will find instructions on how to find RTMP information for the YouTube and Facebook. Learn more about sending a feed to Altar Live with RTMP.

In order to use this feature, you will need the RTMP URL and Stream Key from the platform you wish to stream to. Below is a guide on where you can find this information for some of the popular providers that accept RTMP.

Note: Please note that Altar Live only supports simulcast streaming up to 1080p at this time.

YouTube

Step 1: Create a stream on YouTube. To find your RTMP information for YouTube, log into your YouTube account then navigate to CREATE > Go live. You will then see the following screen:

Step 2: Enter your event's Title and select your desired Privacy setting for YouTube:

  • Public: Anyone can see and discover your stream
  • Private: Only you can see your stream (this is ideal for testing)
  • Unlisted: Anyone with the link can see your stream but it does not appear in the search

Note: This does not impact the privacy of your stream on Altar.

Step 3: Schedule the stream. From here you can also choose to schedule your stream for later. If you miss your scheduled start time, nothing will happen; you can always go into your Live Control room and change the date, time, and whatever other details you'd like. Your event link and RTMP credentials will remain the same until you go live to that event.

Step 4: Once you configured those details as desired, click Create Stream.

Step 5: Copy RTMP parameters. You will be brought to the Live Control Room, where your RTMP URL and Stream Key can be found.

Step 6: Copy and paste these RTMP credentials into your Altar Live event on the Stream step.

Step 7: From your live stream software, go live to Altar Live. You will see a preview on YouTube; be sure to click GO LIVE on YouTube in order for the stream to appear for viewers there.

Note: By default, YouTube will save your stream as a VOD on your YouTube channel. You do have the option within YouTube's Stream Options settings to Make the archive unlisted when complete. This will still post the VOD to your channel but no one will find it via search.

Facebook

You can stream to your profile via RTMP from Facebook's Create Live page (and clicking Create Live Stream) or by clicking the Live button in the Create area of the page or profile to which you wish to stream.  You will be brought to Facebook's Live Producer.

Step 1: On Facebook, make sure under "Select a video source" that Use Stream Keys is selected. Then, scroll down to find the Stream Key and the Server URL (Under "Advanced"). (Note: Your video preview is still visible beneath the settings)

Step 2: Now copy and paste the URL and Stream Key into Altar Live Stream settings on your event creation.

Note: Facebook only supports streaming via RTMPS, but rest assured, Altar Live's multi-stream feature does support this protocol. Enter the RTMPS URL in the RTMP URL field in your Altar Live event.

Step 3: Go live from your stream provider to Altar Live. Altar Live will then send the stream to Facebook. You will see a preview of your stream on Facebook, at which point you can then click Go Live on the Facebook Producer page to post the live video to Facebook.
